The Art and Soul of Healing is visiting the Northwest region of the United States to spend time with an inspired visionary of naturopathic medicine and integrative health, Dr Joe Pizzorno.

Joe Pizzorno, ND is the founding president of Bastyr University established in 1978 and has since been a leader in education, research, and the public face of naturopathic medicine. He is the Editor-in-Chief of IMCJ, one of the leading integrative medicine journals for practitioners. Joe has also co-authored six textbooks for doctors and one of the most recent is Clinical Environmental Medicine that is in my library.

He was appointed by both Presidents Clinton and Bush to prestigious government commissions to advise the president and Congress on how to integrate natural medicine, or whatever name you give to the field, into the conventional healthcare system.

I did not know this about Joe, but he is a member of the scientific advisory boards for the Hecht Foundation, Gateway for Cancer Research, And Bioclinic Naturals - important foundations supporting research in natural medicine. He also has received many honors but notably The Linus Pauling Award from the Institute of Functional Medicine and most recently the Stanley Wallach award from the American College of Nutrition.
