Episode 15: Anna Esparham, MD
Today we will visit Dr Anna Esparham, a medical doctor who specializes in pediatric integrative medicine for pain and chronic disorders. Dr Anna runs a clinic at Children's Mercy Hospital for pediatric pain disorders using non-pharmacologic approaches like acupuncture. Anna Esparham, MD is a triple board-certified physician in integrative medicine, pediatrics, and medical acupuncture. She also has received additional certifications in clinical hypnosis and aromatherapy to apply as many pediatric integrative medicine approaches to help children and families with chronic conditions. Previously at a large regional academic medical center, she built a pediatric integrative medicine and medical acupuncture clinic. She then helped launch the first-of-its-kind pediatric headache treatment center in the country at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, using traditional and integrative therapies to treat headache pain.
At a national level, she serves as the Program Chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Integrative Medicine. She also was invited as a representative for the Pediatric Integrative Leadership Summits to expand the role of pediatric integrative medicine in the provision of pediatric care. She served as National Team Leader implementing the first University of Arizona Pediatric Integrative Medicine in Residency curriculum to improve resident physician well-being and educate physicians on complementary and integrative therapies.
Dr. Esparham is also a Board Director of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture (AAMA) and Chair of the AAMA Symposium in order to advance national acupuncture training and education. She has several peer-reviewed publications and has been featured in local news and radio shows discussing pediatric integrative medicine, headaches, pain, and acupuncture.
